Professor Raymond A. Young's Research Group
Department of Forest Ecology & Management
Materials Science Program
Center for Plasma-Aided Manufacturing

General Description of The Research Program

Welcome to wood and polymer chemistry at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Professor Young's research program is in the general area of wood and polymer chemistry. He has concentrated his efforts on approaches that improve the efficiency of wood utilization for paper and chemicals and which also eliminate or limit environmental hazards of water and air pollution. Emphasis has been placed on integrated methods to efficiently utilize all components of wood and agricultural biomass. Professor Young's work over the last five years has focused on non-polluting pulping of wood and agro-based materials, properties of wood, fibers and composites, evaluation of pine extractives and plasma modification of lignocellulosics.
